The 26,900 square foot, three-story, engineering building houses a variety of specialized labs, classrooms, meeting rooms and other collaborative learning settings. The third level connects to an outdoor learning terrace, green roofs and an expansive interactive photovoltaic array. Achieving LEED Platinum status after it opened in 2012 (scoring 97 points out a possible 110, ranking #1 in the Western Hemisphere, #3 Worldwide), the building boasts an energy use intensity (EUI) of 18.25 kBtu/sf. Rain gardens, a geothermal heating and cooling system, the use of early commissioning, lighting controls and low-flow water fixtures were among other sustainable strategies incorporated into the design of the facility.
