McGRANAHAN architects project: Darrin Filand, AIA - Senior Lead Designer
“During the design of Lakewood High School, I constantly challenged Darrin and his team to come up with design options that went beyond our programmatic expectations while remaining strictly within budget. Darrin’s thoughtfulness and attention to detail is evident throughout the entire building and surrounding campus culminating in a stunningly elegant and expressive brick masonry veneer that unifies the building and the community. Lakewood High School now stands as a proud beacon and is a testament to the power of vision and teamwork coming together.”
— Dr. Michael P. Mack, Superintendent Lakewood School District
“Darrin’s team approached the challenges with an open mind. As we collaborated together on finding the best solution, Darrin remained focused on achieving the best overall outcome for our shared client. The result was phenomenal and made an unmeasurably positive impact on an entire community!”
— John Boatman, Executive Director of Capital Projects and Risk Management, Clover Park School District (Formally with Meng Analysis - Value Engineering)
High-performing energy strategies such as fiberglass windows, large volume ceiling fans, daylighting control, daylight harvesting tubes to redirect daylight into lower-level spaces.
The two-story school serves 825 students, and the central commons stands as a proud beacon welcoming all. Community connections are expressed in a variety of social and learning settings, and both large group and one-on-one collaborative environments occupy every view. The town's fabric is expressed in the unique and creative masonry pattern fervently developed for this project.
