McGRANAHAN architects project: Darrin Filand, AIA - Senior Lead Designer

“Darrin was incredibly insightful with his design work for our new school. His attention to details and his broad knowledge of how a school should feel, look and operate were outstanding. Besides his overall design work, Darrin was genuinely delightful to work with on our project and I am so proud of the work we did together.”

— John Shoup, Principal, Woodland High School

“To keep the project under budget, the district used high quality, but not high-end finishes. Our intent was to spend the money in classrooms where it benefits the kids most. The building’s exterior is concrete rather than more expensive red brick. The polished concrete floors are durable, will be easy to maintain and don’t have to be waxed. The floors will last a lifetime.”

— Michael Green, Superintendent, Woodland Public Schools

State-of-the-art technology in classrooms like interactive whiteboards and microphones, budget-friendly exterior clad concrete masonry, and easy to maintain polished concrete floors.

This two-story school is designed for 900 students, with space to build another wing if necessary. The building supports community after-hour activities through zoning and adjacency of public spaces and separate entrances. Student central commons were designed to transform into a multi-purpose performing arts venue with telescoping bleacher seating and acoustic sound-shaping ceiling panels.
